Provident Financial has become the first employer in Bradford and one of only a handful across the region to gain accredited status from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

As a result of gaining CMI accreditation, Provident is now able to offer in-house, bespoke management training courses through which its employees are able to gain nationally recognised qualifications. Without CMI accreditation, employers have to use external agencies to deliver CMI management courses to their employees, and bespoke courses tailored to meet the specific needs of an employer are hugely expensive. As part of the accreditation process, Provident has invested in training a team of nine employees in the roles of CMI lecturers and assessors, who are able to deliver unique content designed around its own business operations.

Provident is currently offering CMI programmes at levels 3 and 5, and also plans to roll out a level 2 programme during 2010. Level 3 is aimed at line managers throughout the company, and level 5 is an advanced programme aimed at senior management personnel. To gain a CMI qualification, employees must complete a series of 5 modules over 15 month period, including regular skills assessments and coursework assignments. Provident launched its first CMI module in May 2009, and over 100 employees will take part in the programme during 2010.

Anna Newbury, Senior Training & Development Manager at Provident Financial, commented:

"We are extremely proud to have gained CMI accreditation. It is a tremendous achievement for us, and we gained our accreditation on our first submission, which very few organisations achieve. It clearly demonstrates our commitment to people development and providing our employees with the very best opportunities to gain professional qualifications and further their careers. We plan to work closely with the CMI in the future to further develop our own programme and mentor other companies who are working towards accreditation."
